I am often asked, how can I always be so happy? My casually delivered response is; that I had a terrible childhood.

The looks people give me are of surprise and dismay, they spend several confused moments deciding if I am serious or if my childhood really has had a positive impact on my life stories.

I have found that those who lack positive thinking or positive attitude react with a nervous and anxious response. They lose eye contact in an attempt to hide the discomfort they are suddenly feeling. I laugh as I set them at ease.

My past has had a positive impact on my future success and great positive attitude. We all have the same types of feelings, pain and pleasure, anger and excitement, sadness and happiness. I look at my childhood simply giving me an opportunity of experiencing and learning about the unpleasant emotions earlier than most.

Words in the right context or a change in focus will affect or completely alter a persons emotional state with an obvious response in seconds, elevating either a positive or negative emotional reaction. I personally prefer the positive elevation.

For me it is simple. My world is my creation, my life today is a product of my own design. Childhood circumstances were products of others and are less than a distant memory for me. My weaknesses are now strengths which have empowered me to write the history of my choice.

Acceptance is the realization that we cannot change anything past the current tick of the clock. We can only change the meaning we associate with each brief moment in time and choose to be either, a victim with a wound or a survivor with a sword.

My oppressors were victims once. I remind myself of this which keeps me strong and accepting of my past. It gives me strength and courage to know that this survivor rose above his teachers and chose to create a future by his own design.
